February 5-11

James 1:1

This week we pray for:

  • Students as they enter their first full week of classes for spring semester; that they would be ready to learn, work hard and engage well with their courses while also growing in meaningful relationships.
  • Residence life staff and student leaders as they do the invaluable work of shepherding the residence halls and caring for students. We pray for joy, love, wisdom and diligence to do the work God has entrusted to them.
  • Faculty as they begin the new semester; for deepened love for students, passion for learning, and energy and creativity to teach well.
  • Thursday’s poverty simulation for students hosted by the Dornsife Center for Community Engagement; that God would use this experience to equip our students to grow in wisdom and empathy and to love their neighbors in meaningful and helpful ways.
  • The first week of our campus worship programs for the semester:
    • Chapel community worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather to worship God as we begin exploring our theme for the semester, “Living Faith: Trusting the God of Grace,” from the book of James. We pray for Forrest Buckner, campus pastor and dean of spiritual life, as he preaches on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we gather to sing, hear testimony and receive Communion together as one people. We pray that God would bring many people and knit the students, staff and faculty together as one as we worship together.
    • Tuesday night’s first Hosanna service of the semester, a student-led gathering for worship through music, prayer and reflection. We pray that God would be worshiped in spirit and truth in this student community.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led Awake outreach gathering in the HUB; that God would use Awake and its leaders to make the good news of Jesus known at Whitworth in winsome ways.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective morning prayer services led by Professor Ben Brody; that God would meet this small group of students, staff and faculty as they seek him.
  • This weekend’s Honors Scholarship Weekend, as prospective honors students (and their families) visit campus and get to know Whitworth. We pray for strength, love and the joy of God’s Spirit for the enrollment services staff; we pray for God’s guidance for these prospective students and families; and we pray for God’s provision for Whitworth in the fall 2024 incoming class.

Thanksgiving:
God of grace, we thank you that you have made yourself known as the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you that you invite us to know, love and trust you in concrete ways, but only as a response to your goodness, love and power revealed in Jesus. Please empower us by your Spirit to honor you in all we do, joyfully walking in step with your Spirit this day and week. Amen.
