April 29-May 5

Scripture: James 5:7-12

This week we pray for:

  • Students, faculty and staff who are entering the final three weeks of the semester. We pray for strength, perseverance, love and great learning in both curricular and extracurricular endeavors.
  • Students who will be graduating in May; for vocational clarity, provision for employment and a desire to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity. We especially pray for the career center staff, including director Tracy Mouser, as they walk alongside students in this job search and vocational discernment process throughout their Whitworth journeys.
  • Monday’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) end-of-year awards night, particularly honoring graduating senior athletes. We pray that God would use this event as a sweet finish for the seniors and seal in them the good work that he has done in their lives through athletics as they move forward from Whitworth.
  • Thursday’s Honors Exhibition, as Whitworth’s honors students share their good work from the year. We pray that God would use the Honors Program, under the leadership of Associate Professor Bert Emerson, to equip students for meaningful, creative and excellent scholarly and professional lives that provide a foretaste of and witness to the Kingdom of God.
  • The many junior and senior recitals by students in the music department this week and in the coming weeks. We pray for joy, strength and an awareness of God’s presence as they live into their calling as God’s sub-co-creators, adding beauty to the world for God’s glory.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel community worship on Tuesday and Thursday, as the faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Forrest Buckner preaches on Tuesday in our series, “Living Faith: Trusting the God of Grace in the Book of James.” We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray, hear testimony from our community and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection, for joyful and honest worship in Spirit and Truth.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led Awake gathering; that God would give students a heart that longs to see others know Jesus here!
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s daily reflective morning prayer services.

Thanksgiving:
God who came near in Jesus, thank you that even though life is hard, you call us and equip us to wait patiently on you, strengthened by the assurance that Jesus is our compassionate and merciful judge. Thank you that you, God, will condemn all evil; please lead us to hate and fight against evil this day. We want to live in light of the truth that Jesus, our Judge, will return and make things right in us individually and in every broken system in the world. By the power of the Spirit, help us live in light of the truth of Jesus’ pending return with hope, joy, perseverance and perspective. Amen.
