Scripture: James 1:19-21

This week we pray for:

  • Students to grow in meaning and purpose, so that their knowledge, understanding and skills may benefit others for God’s glory.
  • Grounds crew and facilities services staff who continually work to keep Whitworth’s campus safe, beautiful and functioning well. We give thanks for their faithful service and for God’s gracious provision in our beautiful campus.
  • All those involved in Whitworth’s main-stage production of Rabbit Hole. We give thanks for the hard work of all the staff, faculty and students who are contributing to the production. We pray for community, strength, growth and joy in the preparation and the performances this weekend and next.
  • Ongoing Life Groups, which are student small groups led by staff and faculty members to develop faith and Christian fellowship. We pray for connection between peers and mentors and for life-changing growth in Christ and in Christ-centered community.
  • Tuesday’s Weyerhaeuser Center lecture by Yale professor Christian Wiman on the intersection of faith and art; that God would use the lecture to equip Whitworth and Spokane community members to live into God’s call to cultivate art as worship today.
  • The participants in the Inland Northwest Regional Science Bowl who will be on campus over the weekend; that their time at Whitworth would be both a time of great learning and also a taste of the goodness of who God is through their time on campus.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel community worship on Tuesday and Thursday as the faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Associate Chaplain for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Stephy Nobles-Beans preaches on Tuesday.
    • We also pray for Thursday’s service, as we come together to sing, pray, hear testimony from our community and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection; for real encounter with the Living God by the Spirit of Jesus.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led Awake gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters in community.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s daily reflective morning prayer services.

Thanksgiving:
God who spoke the world into existence, thank you that you are a God who continues to speak. Thank you for Jesus, your living Word, and thank you for Scripture, your written Word. As you have spoken, help us be people who listen, first to you but also to others. By your Spirit, we pray for more listening and less speaking. Teach us to be angry at only the right things, the things you hate. Thank you that you are the God who will make all things seen and make all things right, so we are freed from the burden of justifying and defending ourselves to others. Lead us in the humble way of Jesus. Amen.
