Nov. 6-12

Mark 11:15-19

This week we pray for:

  • Strength and perseverance for students in their studies and in their extracurricular commitments.
  • Whitworth’s incredible Ethics Bowl team members as they train and compete nationally. We pray for joy, learning and formation into the men and women God has made them to be in service to God’s purposes in the world.
  • Fall-sport athletes who are finishing up their seasons; that the seeds God has planted in them through their participation this season would grow and bear fruit so they might continue to be transformed into the women and men God made them to be. We particularly pray for seniors that they would know their identity in what God says about them, even beyond their athletics careers.
  • Our Veterans Day service on Friday, honoring all our veterans who have faithfully served our country and those who are currently serving. We pray with gratitude for members of the Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs attending Whitworth and preparing to serve our country. We also pray for all our veterans (including staff and faculty vets) and veteran dependents who attend Whitworth, that God would meet their needs and lead them in their time of learning and growing at Whitworth. We pray with gratitude for Phil Labrie, the associate director of military & veterans outreach, and his amazing work developing the Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC) that is an incredible resource and home base at Whitworth for our veterans. Finally, we pray that God would bless our “Got Your Six” training this week; that it would help equip staff and faculty to better care for and support our military-connected students.
  • The University Recreation Center and Whitworth’s outdoor recreation staff as they provide space and meaningful opportunities to stay physically healthy, enjoy God’s creation and connect in community. We pray for our Whitworth community to worship God in their embodied way of living in the world.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship as Kent McDonald preaches Tuesday in our series, “Good news! Jesus in the Gospel of Mark.” We also pray for Thursday’s service of music, testimony and the Lord’s Supper. We pray that God would bring people out and that all who come would find a place of sincere belonging with God and others.
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering; for community and openness to the breath of the Living God.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE outreach ministry gathering; for God to use this ministry as a light to the campus, particularly for those who do not know Jesus yet.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.

Thanksgiving:
God of righteousness and justice, we thank you that you are God who is good all the way to your core. We praise you that you do not change like shifting shadows but always delight in what is right. Thank you for the call on us to also care about things being right in the world as we follow you and are led by your Spirit. Please teach us what it means to love you and love others in concrete ways in our lives today. Amen.
