Mark 10:17-27

This week we pray for:

  • Peace in the Middle East and in Ukraine (and in all war-torn regions). We pray that God would grow in our students hearts and minds that align with his so that they could provide compassionate and wise leadership in a fractured world.
  • Strength and joy for students as they complete this week of classes and midterms.
  • Students as they embark on Fall Break at the end of the week; that they will find refreshment with family and friends. We pray for safety and wisdom for those traveling and joyful rest for all. We also pray for those who will remain at Whitworth during Fall Break; that they would find community, joy and rest at Whitworth over the break.
  • The Dornsife Center for Community Engagement Fall Impact Trip over Fall Break that will take a group of students to the West Central neighborhood in Spokane for two days of learning, service in the community, and growing in God’s heart for this specific place.
  • Faculty over Fall Break, for sabbath and for whatever they need to feel ready to jump into the second half of the semester well.
  • The student leaders serving on the Health Education Action Team (HEAT), the student mentors serving in Student Success, and the BUCS Bridge mentors for first-generation and BIPOC students – that God would lead and empower all of them to promote the flourishing of all students at Whitworth.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship as Stephy Nobles-Beans preaches Tuesday in our series, “Good News! Jesus in the Gospel of Mark.” We also pray for Thursday’s service of music, testimony and the Lord’s Supper. We pray that everyone who attends would encounter God and find belonging with God’s people.
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering, for transformative worship in Spirit and truth.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE outreach ministry gathering, for God to keep sending workers to this harvest field who long to see others know Jesus and lovingly act on that longing.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • Young Life ministry in Spokane, including the many Whitworth students who serve as leaders; that God would encourage them as they lead the charge to re-establish YL Clubs that were forced to go dormant during the years of COVID restrictions. We pray that God would raise up new student leaders with a heart for young people in Spokane to meet and grow with Jesus through this wonderful ministry, with whom Whitworth has been partnering for 79 years.

Thanksgiving:
Thank you, God, that you are a Good Shepherd and Loving Father. We need assurance of your love and care if we are to be able to surrender all to you. Thank you for your promise that whatever we surrender to you, we will be paid back both in this life and the life to come. Help us trust you no matter what life’s circumstances bring and thus share with others the goodness of knowing you. Amen.
