Moses’s Shame & God’s Mercy

March 2-8

Scripture: Deuteronomy 1:37; 4:21; 3:23-28; 32:48-52; 34:1-6; Matthew 17:1-10

This week we pray for:

  • Students, to grow in knowing their meaning and purpose, so that their knowledge, understanding and skills may benefit others for God’s glory.
  • Grounds crew and facilities services staff who continually work to keep Whitworth’s campus safe, beautiful and functioning well. We give thanks for their faithful service and for God’s gracious provision in our beautiful campus.
  • All those involved in the debut of Whitworth’s first bilingual play, La Algajira. We give thanks for this bridge-building play which incorporates English and Spanish and was written by Whitworth Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Naphtali Fields-Forbes. We also give thanks for God’s provision for the just-completed repairs and renovations to Cowles Auditorium. We pray for community, strength, growth and joy in the preparation and the performances this weekend and next.
  • Ongoing Life Groups, student small groups led by staff and faculty members to develop faith and Christian fellowship. We pray for connection between peers and mentors and for life-changing growth in Christ and in Christ-centered community.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Associate Chaplain for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Stephanie Nobles Beans preaches on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters through testimony, worship, a talk and small groups.
    • Monday-Friday’s daily reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • Whitworth Admissions staff as they continue to recruit the incoming class of 2020. We pray for strength and encouragement for staff along with peace and provision for prospective students and families. We pray and trust that God would call the right students to Whitworth to experience this mind and heart education.

Lord in heaven, we stand amazed at the great mercy and grace that you have shown towards fallen sinners. By rights we should be eternally separated from your holiness and goodness – for we have rebelled against you in thought, word and deed. Yet in loving-kindness you reach down to fallen humanity and lift us up, seating us together with your dearly beloved Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, who died that we might live. Thank you for your incredible forgiveness and your amazing grace towards us. By your Spirit, help us receive that grace and share it with others this week. Amen.
