The Shema – Love the Lord Alone!

Feb. 10-17

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4-9

This week we pray for:

  • Students who started their first semester at Whitworth in February, that they would find a place of belonging and home as they enter into the rhythm of university life.
  • Students to seek God first, to remember God’s goodness and love, to recognize their need for Jesus, and to find him meeting them in their places of need.
  • This semester’s Teaching Roundtable gatherings that begin on Monday, that Whitworth’s faculty would continue to develop in innovative teaching methods to enhance them as educators as they share ideas and learn from valued colleagues.
  • Students learning about off-campus study abroad opportunities for next year at Tuesday’s Off Campus Programs Fair, that God would inspire them and open up doors for them to grow in mind and heart by engaging in these experiences.
  • Thursday’s Student Leadership Fair, that God would raise up student leaders to serve, lead and grow through involvement in the many wonderful student leadership opportunities at Whitworth. We pray that God would call forward diverse, gifted and sincere Resident Assistants, Campus Ministry Coordinators, Cultural Diversity Advocates, Health Education Advocates, Community Engagement Specialists, Campus Worship Leaders and more for the 2020-21 school year.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Lauren Taylor preaches regarding the “Shema” of Israel, the call to “Listen” to the One Lord. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters through testimony, a talk and small groups in the HUB multi-purpose room.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • This weekend’s Honors Scholarship Weekend, as prospective honors students and their families visit campus and get to know Whitworth. We pray for strength, love and the joy of God’s Spirit for the admissions staff; we pray for God’s guidance for these prospective students and families. Finally, we pray for God’s provision for Whitworth in the fall 2020 incoming class.

Lord, may we love you in all things and above all things as the One Lord. We want to worship you alone. Empower us to remember who you are as our Lord and who we are as your people. By your Spirit, let your light shine through us near and far, in words and actions, that all may know you as the One Lord. Amen.
