Commencement 2019

May 13-20
Psalms 136:1 – O Give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his love endures forever.

This week we pray for:

  • Students who are taking final exams to have wisdom, encouragement and understanding through the week.
  • Safe travels for students who are exiting campus at the end of the week for the summer.
  • Faculty to be strengthened and encouraged as they proctor and grade final exams and projects while caring for the students in their classes. We also pray for Monday’s faculty assembly as faculty gather for important governance work.
  • All staff as they provide support in countless ways in their various roles here on campus, from support staff to custodians, student life to grounds, human resources to the business office, and more.
  • Our final Morning Prayer for this spring semester on Monday.
  • President Beck A. Taylor’s continued wisdom and guidance as he leads Whitworth University.
  • Commencement 2019:
    • All graduates and their families – traditional undergraduate students, continuing studies students and graduate students – that they would travel safely, be filled with gratitude at this significant milestone, and be encouraged in trust toward God with whatever lies ahead.
    • The Senior Service of Communion and Commissioning on May 17 that includes faculty and student reflections on shared experiences of Christian faith, and as students recommit their lives to God’s service and are set apart as Christ’s servants in the world.
    • Graduate Commencement services on May 18 as graduate students receive their well-earned degrees.
    • Baccalaureate service on Sunday, May 19, as we gather to worship God together. We pray for all the students who will be leading in the service and for theology professor Josh Leim as he preaches.
    • Undergraduate Commencement on May 19 with thanks to God for all the graduates and all those leading, including speaker and Whitworth professor Mike Sardinia.

Thanksgiving:

Lord we thank you for the students who have spent this year at Whitworth, both the graduates and those who will be returning next fall. We thank you for all who have given of their energy and skill. We thank you for the teachers and mentors, for the family and loved ones. We thank you for all of our Whitworth students and graduates and entrust them to your loving care. Amen.
