Elijah and the God of Our Doubts

April 8-April 15
1 Kings 19:1-18

This week we pray:

  • For students to be compassionate in heart and full of energy and zeal as they seek to learn the ways of God’s word and come to understand how their gifts may serve God’s purposes in the world.
  • With deep appreciation for our committed and generous board of trustees as they participate in their spring meetings on the Whitworth campus this week. We pray for an awareness of God’s presence and leading as they engage with the campus community and participate in the governing activities of the university.
  • For Monday’s Faculty Assembly as our faculty gather for a time of community, important discussion and governance decisions.
  • For Monday’s lecture by author and leader Dominique Gilliard on America’s incarceration policies and the call on the church to pursue justice that restores and reforms. We pray that God would use the lecture to raise awareness and stir up Whitworth community members to participate in God’s work of justice in new ways.
  • For campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as the faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Graduate Assistant Ministry Intern Jake Chipka continues our series of “Reading the Bible with Jesus” by looking at various lesser-known Old Testament stories on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering as students explore who God is, who they are, and why that even matters.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • With gratitude as we gather for Thursday’s ceremony to officially begin the construction for the Athletics Leadership Center that will be built over the next 16 months. We pray that God would use the new building in magnificent ways for our coaches and student athletes, and we pray for this new space and all that will happen there to further equip more and more students to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity with their whole lives.
  • The admissions process for the incoming class of 2019, that God would provide for Whitworth and guide the families who are discerning their college options.

Lord, thank you that even in times of doubt and fear you do not forsake us. Give us the ears to hear your still, small voice that will drown out the lies of the enemy. We trust that we are secure in you, and we pray for those we love who are facing doubts today. Thank you that you are our rock and our salvation no matter what storm may come. Please give us courage today by your Spirit to walk forward with you in the midst of our doubts.
