Job’s Suffering and the Holy and Good God

Feb. 11-Feb. 18
Job 23:1-15

This week we pray for:

  • Students to seek God first, to remember God’s goodness and love, and to recognize their need for Jesus.
  • This semester’s teaching roundtable gatherings that begin on Monday, that Whitworth’s faculty would continue to develop innovative teaching methods to enhance teaching and learning as they share ideas and learn from their valued colleagues.
  • Students learning about off-campus study opportunities for next year at Tuesday’s Off-Campus Programs Fair, that God would inspire them and open up doors for them to grow in mind and heart by engaging in these experiences.
  • Students exploring opportunities for service and leadership at the Camp Fair on Wednesday, that they would know God’s leading and calling as they discern.
  • Thursday’s Student Leadership Fair, that God would raise up student leaders to serve, lead and grow through involvement in the many wonderful student leadership opportunities at Whitworth. We pray that God would raise up resident assistants, campus ministry coordinators, cultural diversity advocates, health education advocates, community engagement specialists, campus worship leaders and more for the 2019-20 school year.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Forrest Buckner preaches on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters through testimony, a talk and small groups in the HUB Multipurpose Room.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • This weekend’s Honors Scholarship Weekend, as prospective honors students and their families visit campus and get to know Whitworth. We pray for strength, love and the joy of God’s Spirit for the admissions staff; we pray for God’s guidance for these prospective students and families; and we pray for God’s provision for Whitworth in the fall 2019 incoming class.

Heavenly Father thank you for your loving kindness and heart of sweet compassion. We thank you that you care for us in our times of deep distress and suffering, and thank you for being a God who knows suffering from the inside through the life and death of Jesus Christ. Thank you that you never forsake us nor leave us comfortless but so often send showers of refreshment through your many faithful witnesses. Lead us in your way of love and comfort for others as we trust in your faithful presence today and this week. Amen.
