Opening Convocation: “God is Faithful”

Jan. 28-Feb. 3
Psalm 36:5 – Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

This week we pray:

  • For the entire campus community as we begin the Spring Term together by celebrating Opening Convocation and Founder’s Day on Jan. 31. We give thanks for the mission of Whitworth to equip our diverse student body to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity that has been faithfully pursued for 129 years. As Whitworth continues forward with that mission, we pray for unity across difference, common commitment to learning and growth, and openness to be transformed by God’s Spirit in Christ.
  • For students returning to campus for the spring semester, for safe journeys and that God would prepare them for all that he has in store as they enter into this new term of learning, serving, growth and community.
  • For students facing financial challenges while looking at the new semester, for God’s provision for them and their families.
  • For students to have the courage in sharing God’s light, love and justice with others.
  • For Wednesday’s Faculty Scholarship Recognition Luncheon as Whitworth celebrates scholarly and community accomplishments from the previous academic year. We pray for strength and perseverance for faculty to pursue their academic goals toward the end that God would be glorified, that Whitworth students would learn more deeply, and that the common good would be advanced through their scholarly contributions.
  • For the spring New Student Orientation event for those entering Whitworth this spring. We pray for belonging, community and encouragement for those new students.
  • For Morning Prayer, as a group of students, staff and faculty join Christians around the world in lifting up their hearts to the Lord in a service of Scripture, silence, prayer and song led by Director of Campus Worship and Professor of Music Ben Brody on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Living God, we thank you for your faithfulness as creator, sustainer and redeemer of all. We particularly give thanks for your faithfulness to Whitworth over the past 129 years. In your faithfulness, lead us forward as instruments of your peace, love and justice this day and this week, that you may be glorified and known near and far. Amen.
