Summarizing Jesus’ Mission (Redefining Christmas)

Dec. 3- Dec. 10
Matthew 1:1-18

This week we pray:

  • For our award-winning forensics and ethics bowl teams, including their coaches Professors Mike Ingram and Keith Wyma, that they would grow in community and with God as they develop their communication and reasoning skills that would be used for the common good throughout their lives and careers.
  • For the official beginning of this Christmas season at Whitworth as faculty, staff and students gather for our traditional Christmas reception and Christmas tree lighting hosted by Beck and Julie Taylor on Dec. 3.
  • With gratitude for each luminaria along the Hello Walk set out for Light the Way’s annual celebration of faculty and staff who supported Whitworth financially this year. We give thanks for the faithful service and generosity of Whitworth’s committed employees.
  • For the final week of normal Campus Worship programs:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Forrest Buckner preaches the final sermon in our series, “Righteousness Redefined: Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE outreach ministry gathering.
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music, prayer, testimony and the Lord’s Supper.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • With thanks for the Whitworth Auxiliary and their annual Bazaar and Bake sale on Friday that benefits Whitworth students in a variety of ways.
  • With gratitude for Whitworth’s eighteen-year partnership with the Act Six Scholar program, which focuses on leadership development and equips students for vision, service, diversity, community, preparation and transformation. We particularly pray for the eight first-year Act Six scholars who will be presenting on their understanding of leadership Friday evening as the culmination of their first-year seminar, that they would hear God’s call on them as leaders and respond with courage.
  • For all those performing in and attending the Annual Christmas Festival Concert held at the Martin Woldson Theater at the FOX in Spokane, including the Whitworth Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Chorus and student instrumentalists, that they would all encounter God through the beautiful artistic presentation.

Faithful God, in Jesus You have taken on our human flesh and blood and come to restore integrity and fidelity among us. Help us to give with Him to You and to one another the proper and adequate response of faithful, serving love as Your people. Thank you for the miracle of the incarnation and redemption in Jesus Christ our Lord who ever lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
