“Redefining the Law – What is our Purpose?”

Nov. 12-Nov. 19
Matthew 22:34-40

This week we pray for:

  • Strength and perseverance for students in their studies and in their extracurricular commitments.
  • Student athletes as they travel and compete, for safety, joy, community and growth into the men and women God made them to be.
  • Our Veterans Day service on Monday honoring all of our veterans and remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. We also pray with gratitude for the Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion with its Whitworth and Gonzaga participants and oversight officers.
  • President’s Coffee as staff come together to reconnect, celebrate years of service and hear university updates from President Beck A. Taylor.
  • With gratitude for the 70th anniversary of the Harriet Cheney Cowles Library building that opened on Nov. 14, 1948. We pray for all the library staff as they continue to provide foundational resources for learning to every corner of campus.
  • Thursday’s 11th annual International & Diversity Forum as keynote speaker Mandy Manning speaks in support of the forum’s goal to build international and cultural understanding to prepare individuals for flourishing in a global environment.
  • Whitworth’s many incredible international students, particularly as they celebrate on Friday the 33nd annual International Festival, in which students from around the world share a glimpse of their home culture. We give thanks for each international student and pray for them to be sustained, loved and equipped well in their season at Whitworth.
  • The Teaching Roundtable, Faculty Scholarship Forum and Faculty Assembly this week as Whitworth’s faculty discuss, learn, present and make governance decisions.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Forrest Buckner preaches in our series, “Righteousness Redefined: Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE outreach ministry gathering.
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and the Lord’s Supper.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective morning prayer services.

Thank you Lord that you have made your purposes for us clear. Lead us in your way of love, first for you and subsequently for others, as we gratefully respond to your amazing love revealed in Jesus. Help us to love as your Son loved. Thank you for your Spirit’s transformation in us as we journey with you in your way of love.  Amen.
