“Redefining Messiah and Discipleship”

Oct. 15-Oct. 22
Matthew 16: 21-27

This week we pray for:

  • Students as they take mid-terms and continue on in the substance of their learning and studies. We pray for peace, strength, perspective, learning and equipping to follow God’s call on their lives through their studies.
  • Campus Worship this week:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Forrest Buckner preaches in our series, “Righteousness Redefined: Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE outreach ministry gathering.
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and the Lord’s Supper.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • Monday’s “Unveiled,” a new multicultural student-led worship event that incorporates different styles of worship music, different languages and different experiences for anyone from the campus community to worship our living and loving God!
  • The Overflow discussion this week as theology students and faculty gather to dialogue regarding the topic, “You Are What You Eat: Thinking Christianly About Food.”
  • All who are involved in The Spitfire Grill main stage production at Whitworth. We pray for strength, joy and community for the cast and crew, and we pray that God would be honored through the artistry, hard work and story of the show.
  • Staff members as they gather for the President’s Coffee with President Beck A. Taylor and join together for community, a university update and celebration of individual employee’s years of service.

Thanksgiving:

Lord, thank you for the invitation that invites all people to follow you and become your disciples. Touch our hearts, enlighten our minds and stir our spirit.  Help us daily to take up our cross and follow Jesus, ready to follow our suffering Messiah no matter where he leads us. Lead us to live in his light, boldly proclaim the Gospel and love extravagantly all because of Your love that first claimed us. Amen.
