“Redefining Blessing”

Sept. 17-23
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-6
This week we pray for:
  • Our students as they engage in their studies; that they will trust God, work hard and engage well in the journey of learning and discovery set before them.
  • Community Building Day as over 1,000 Whitworth students, staff and faculty engage in meaningful community service activities throughout Spokane County on Wednesday. We pray for joyful service, meaningful relationships and God’s leading for a continued life of service to others.
  • Our new staff and faculty members as they adjust to a new place and their fall rhythm; that they will be encouraged, strengthened, and have a growing love of learning and love for Whitworth students.
  • Our mentor-led Life Groups that start this week and go for eight weeks. We pray with gratitude for our wonderful staff and faculty mentors and pray that God would use these groups to deepen the faith of students and to form rich, Christ-centered peer and mentor relationships that will bear much fruit.
  • Campus Worship this week:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as new Campus Pastor for Discipleship and Residence Hall Ministry Lauren Taylor preaches in our series, “Righteousness Redefined: Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE ministry gathering.
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and the Lord’s Supper.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • Environmental stewardship in gratitude to God for his good creation. We pray particularly this week for the Kipos (Students Advocating Environmental Justice) club’s annual Harvest Festival in the Whitworth Community Garden.

Thanksgiving:
Gracious God, you have so richly blessed us with life, with love and joy, with hope in the midst of despair. You have told us in your Word that we are blessed in so many ways.  Help us to boldly proclaim these blessings even in the midst of trials and tribulations; we know that we are blessed because of your Son Jesus. Give us eyes to see the ways you are changing the world in which we live. Give us ears to hear your call to join with you in this journey of blessings. Amen.
