Welcome to a New Year!

Aug. 27-Sept. 3

Welcome back to the On Bended Knee prayer blog, and thank you for partnering with us by praying for Whitworth University! We are deeply grateful for our faithful prayer partners around the world who stand before God on our behalf and help carry our burdens and celebrate God’s goodness and provision. God willing, there will be a new blog post every Monday from now through the 2018-19 school year.

Theme: Redefining Righteousness: Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew

This week we pray for:

  • Athletes who are practicing and preparing for their first competitions in fall sports; for hard work, community, and growth physically, spiritually and emotionally.
  • Resident directors and the many student leaders as they are preparing for their leadership this school year. We pray that they will be filled with enthusiasm, wisdom, compassion and courage as they create community in their residence halls and on campus.
  • All new faculty and lecturers who are beginning at Whitworth for the 2018-19 academic year; for vision, strength, insight, support and community for them as they move and get started in their new roles.
  • All of the wonderful staff and faculty of Whitworth who contribute to the life of this institution and who have been working to make this school year possible in myriad different ways. We are grateful.
  • Our faculty and staff worship services, as faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the new academic year in worship, Word and sacrament together.
  • The blessings of the Lord to rest upon all Whitworth employees; that God would establish the work of their hands in all that they do in their roles across the Whitworth campus.
  • Saturday’s move-in day as the largest incoming class in Whitworth’s history arrives and begins their season here. We pray for these students to find a place of belonging, to love and be loved, and to grow to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity. We pray for parents dropping off their children to have peace and assurance of God’s love and power. We give thanks for God’s abundant provision in this wonderful group of students.
  • Saturday’s Welcome Fair for incoming students; for peace and guidance as they explore the many opportunities for involvement at Whitworth.

Lord of all, we give you thanks for the gift of this new school year. We are grateful for each student who is walking on the Whitworth campus. We thank you that you love them and are calling them closer to you. May this year be a year in which every student knows the unity of being called and loved by the One Lord, One Spirit and One Father. May we walk upright in righteousness this year, and may you be glorified. Amen.
