Renewal of All: The New Heaven and the New Earth!

May 7-13

Revelation 21:1-8; 22:1-7

This week we pray for:

  • Students, that the Lord’s presence generates calm and confidence as they complete their last week of classes before finals. We pray that their hearts will be quieted from any distractions and that they will be focused.
  • Graduating students to be reassured that this ending opens a door to great opportunities in their lives. We pray that they turn to God in this season, trusting him to guide them in their calling to love him and love others as they respond to him in trust toward that purpose.
  • Students who are returning from study-abroad experiences, including the 12 students returning from the Central America Study & Service Program, that they could find the support they need, process well, and share boldly the ways they have been transformed through their experiences abroad.
  • Brenda Salter McNeil’s Friday conversation with the Whitworth community as this national leader in the area of reconciliation brings her expertise and biblical call to reconciliation to the Whitworth campus. We pray that Whitworth community members would obediently receive reconciliation with God and thus courageously pursue reconciliation with each other across various divisions that wrack our nation and world.
  • The ongoing search for the new campus pastor for discipleship & residence hall ministry as the final two finalists visit campus for their interviews this week. We pray for the committee to know God’s leading and the unity of the Spirit as they discern together. We also give thanks for the wonderful work God has done through the Rev. Dr. Mindy Smith as a campus pastor here for the past 10 years and give thanks for her new role as the associate director of the Office of Church Engagement here at Whitworth.
  • The final week of campus worship:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather in worship as we complete our series on Revelation on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to worship God and to celebrate Communion in our final chapel together.
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are, and why that even matters.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.

King of kings and Lord of lords, thank you that you have revealed to us the end of this story, namely a new heaven and a new earth where you dwell with us in the renewal of all things. Thank you for the hope of the resurrection of Jesus and the promise that evil will one day be no more. May your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Come Lord Jesus. Amen.
