Who is Worthy?

March 19-25

Revelation 5

This week we pray for:

  • Students as they complete midterms before Spring Break, that they will use their time wisely and continue to learn and grow in their studies.
  • The General Education Review process as faculty meet this week to consider the various general education models that have been developed over the past few months. We pray for wisdom, insight and unity by God’s Spirit as they consider the direction for this vital element of Whitworth’s academic requirements.
  • The nearly 100 Whitworth students going to serve at the annual Young Life Work Week with 200 other students from Northwest universities. We pray for productive preparation of camp for summer, for great community among the students, and for all of the students to grow closer with Jesus through the experience.
  • The Dornsife Center for Community Engagement’s Put Down Roots local service-learning trip, as students spend the first part of their Spring Break learning about and serving at various Christian ministries that are doing great work in Spokane.
  • Students who are not looking forward to Spring Break, that they would find God’s encouragement and presence in their time of need and that people around them would reach out in concrete acts of love.
  • This season of Lent, as we all reflect upon the miracle of Jesus’ condescension as a human into our suffering and pain. We pray that we would draw near to Jesus as we prepare for Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
  • For campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as the faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Forrest Buckner continues our series on Revelation by preaching on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to for a special presentation of Jesus’ suffering in Mark 13-15 by Professor of Engineering & Physics Steven Zemke and to celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are, and why that even matters.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.

Lord, you alone are worthy, for the heavens declare the glory of God and the earth unites with them in a magnificent chorus of praise to your holy name. There should be no greater proclamation of your grace and glory, no more worthy declaration of your wonder and praise than the worship that rises from the lips of sinners, saved by grace, for you have redeemed us by your blood and clothed us in your own garments of righteousness. You deserve our ceaseless praise and glory into the eternal ages to come. Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God forever and ever. Amen.
