A Call to Conquer: Comfort & Conviction for the Church

Feb. 19-26

Revelation 2-3

This week we pray for:

  • Monday’s President’s Colloquy on Civil Discourse, as faculty members Nate King, Nicole Sheets, Patty Bruininks and Fred Johnson invite the Whitworth community forward in constructive dialogue and healthy discourse on the topic, “Can we disagree without being disagreeable?
  • Students who may be struggling in their Christian walk, that their hearts may be encouraged and their faith may be strengthened.
  • Student-athletes as they travel and compete, that they could work hard, persevere in trials, walk in humility, and continue to be shaped into the men and women that God made them to be.
  • Prospective students as they visit campus with family and friends, that God would be guiding and providing for them in the discernment process as well as providing the future students that Whitworth needs.
  • Monday’s Faculty Assembly as faculty gather for shared governance. We pray for wisdom, unity and God’s guidance in their work.
  • Tuesday’s President’s Coffee, as staff gather to celebrate years of service and receive an update on the university from President Taylor.
  • One Pine Day on Feb. 21-22, as the Whitworth community near and far rallies together to support life-changing opportunities for students. We pray with thanksgiving for all the generous donors who have supported Whitworth over the years and continue to do so.
  • Friday’s Faculty Development Day as Whitworth’s faculty gather for learning and community as they progress as scholar-teachers.
  • This weekend’s BELIEF Conference hosted by Whitworth’s student BELIEF Club that brings high school students from local neighborhoods to campus for a college-preparation event providing education and support about transitioning from the K-12 system to higher education. We pray for the Whitworth student leaders who will be hosting and overseeing the event, and we pray for the high schoolers attending, that God would inspire them and open doors for them to grow and develop to their full potential.
  • Campus worship this week:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as faculty, staff and students gather in worship and as Forrest Buckner continues our series on Revelation by preaching on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing, pray, hear a faculty testimony and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, as students gather for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters.
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s reflective Morning Prayer services.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we thank you for the privilege of knowing you personally. We are grateful that you are the ultimate conqueror who won victory over death and evil so we might have life eternal. Thank you, Lord, for the strength that you give us and the comfort you surround us with in our suffering. Convict us as well in the ways that we are compromising our faithfulness to you. Be our vision, oh Lord; may we please you in a way that brings honor and glory to your name. Amen.
