Filled to the Fullness of God

Jan. 29-Feb. 4

Ephesians 3:17-19: So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

This week we pray:

  • For the entire campus community as we start the Spring Term together by celebrating Opening Convocation and Founder’s Day on Feb. 1. We give thanks for the mission of Whitworth to equip our diverse student body to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity that has been faithfully pursued for 128 years. As Whitworth continues forward with that mission, we pray for unity across difference, common commitment to learning and growth, and openness to be transformed by God’s Spirit in Christ.
  • With gratitude for retired Whitworth chaplain and professor, the Rev. Ron Frase, Ph.D., as he receives Whitworth’s Distinguished Ministry Leadership Award. We are grateful for the ongoing legacy of honoring God, following Christ and serving humanity that he and his wife, Marianne, have left at Whitworth, particularly in his pioneering of and leadership of the Central America Study Program that God has been using to shape Whitworth students since 1977.
  • For students returning to campus for spring semester, for safe journeys and that God would be preparing them for all that he has in store for them as they enter into this new term of learning, serving, growth and community.
  • For students facing financial challenges looking at the new semester. We pray for God’s provision for them and their families.
  • For students to have the courage to use their gifts to bring life and God’s love to others.
  • For student-athletes as they travel and participate in various events on and off campus.
  • For the Faculty Scholarship Recognition Luncheon as Whitworth celebrates scholarly and community accomplishments during the previous academic year. We pray that faculty would continue to have the strength to pursue their academic goals toward the end that God would be glorified and the common good would be advanced through their scholarly contributions.
  • For the Spring New Student Orientation event for new freshmen and transfer students entering Whitworth in Jan Term or spring. We pray for belonging, community and encouragement for those new students.
  • For Morning Prayer, as a small group of students, staff and faculty join Christians around the world in lifting up their hearts to the Lord with a brief service of Scripture, silence, prayer and song led by Ben Brody, director of campus worship and professor of music, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Lord, we are thankful as you pour your love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, and for pouring it out into the lives of those around us. We are grateful to be instruments of your grace so that your love will be felt in clear and unmistakable ways by those whom our lives impact. Amen.
