“I AM” (the King and Lord Who Delivers)

Oct. 2-8

Scripture:
John 6:16-21

This week we pray for:

  • Students to thrive in unique ways as they engage with their classes and balance the many opportunities and commitments of university life. We pray for good friendships, community, joy, wisdom and encouragement, along with boldness to access available resources if help is needed.
  • All students to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
  • Resident directors as they lead their teams of committed resident assistants and care for all of the students in the residence halls. We pray with thanksgiving for them, and we pray for strength, wisdom, joy and love in their ongoing good work.
  • Homecoming weekend as members of the Whitworth community celebrate, reminisce and reconnect! We pray with gratitude for the members of the classes of ’57, ’67, ’77, ’87, ’97, ’07 and ’12 who return for milestone reunions. We pray for safety and joy in the many activities over the weekend.
  • With gratitude for the incredible work that God has accomplished through the work of Young Life in the 70-plus years of its partnership with Whitworth. We pray for all those joining the Young Life Homecoming Reunion gathering over the weekend, for joy, encouragement and worship as they remember God’s faithfulness in the lives of young people.
  • The Peacemaking Across Division speakers this week:
    • Jer Swigart, co-founding director of the Global Immersion Project, as he speaks on Wednesday evening on “Waging Peace in a Divided World,” describing a theology of peacemaking and strategies for reconciliation.
    • Roberto Mendoza Perez, as he lectures Thursday night through a partnership with Witness for Peace Northwest on “Human Rights in Mexico: How U.S. Policies Affect State Violence, Militarization, and Displacement.”
  • Campus Worship this week:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Forrest Buckner preaches in our series, “God Made Known: Jesus’ I AM statements in the Gospel of John”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE ministry gathering
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and the Lord’s Supper
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • The Snapshot visit for prospective students and families over the weekend. We pray that all of the many people visiting could get a true understand of Whitworth while they are here and that God would give them wisdom from him in the search process. We pray in trust that God would call together the Class of 2022, providing for the flourishing of both students and Whitworth.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we are so thankful that when the storms of life come, you are with us.  You tell us “Don’t be afraid. I am here.” We are grateful that you are our King and Lord who delivers. May we and all the world know your deliverance in increasing measure this day. Amen.
