“I AM” (The Messiah)

Sept. 25-Oct. 1

John 4:25-26

This week we pray for:

  • Monday’s monthly Faculty Assembly as faculty members join together for their important communal governance work.
  • Student-athletes as they travel and compete, that they could give their all, care for one another, persevere in trials, walk in humility, and continue to be shaped into the men and women that God made them to be.
  • Various lectures this week that provide the Whitworth community opportunities to integrate their mind-and-heart education by hearing from experts, engaging with faith and contemporary topics, and being inspired to make a difference in the world including:
    • Monday’s film presentation (Trails of Hope and Terror) and Q&A by theologian and scholar-activist Miguel de la Torre telling stories of immigrants crossing the border that marks Whitworth’s celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month;
    • Tuesday’s Whitworth screening of An American Conscience: The Reinhold Niebuhr Story, with an introduction by the producer, writer and director;
    • Wednesday’s “Racial Injustice, Housing, and Spokane History” lecture by local historian Logan Camporeale;
    • Thursday’s lecture exploring human belonging because of who God is as Father, Son and Spirit by C. Baxter Kruger, Paul Young (author of The Shack) and John MacMurray.
  • Campus Worship this week:
    • Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Campus Pastor Mindy Smith preaches in our series, “God Made Known: Jesus’ I AM statements in the Gospel of John;”
    • Tuesday night’s student-led Hosanna worship gathering;
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE ministry gathering;
    • Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and the Lord’s Supper;
    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday reflective Morning Prayer services.
  • The Associated Students of Whitworth University (ASWU) as they provide important leadership for the student body. We particularly pray for this week’s elections for residence hall representatives and for the Executive Team: Jeff DeBray, Dylan Reyes and Shaun Fisher.

Lord thank you for being our “I AM,” our Messiah and our King who promises to come reign in glory. May your Kingdom come soon, and please lead us as we seek to witness to and participate in your Kingdom rule this day by the power of your Spirit. Amen.
