Come and See God Made Known

Sept. 10-17

John 1:14-18

This week we pray for:

  • Students in their first full week of classes, that they will find a rhythm that nourishes them spiritually, academically and relationally as they begin the rigorous discipline of their academic pursuits.
  • Monday’s “President’s Rally for Unity” as the Whitworth community gathers in unity in the midst of the many dimensions of difference that make Whitworth special. We pray for unity that only God can bring, love for our fellow human beings on this campus, and protection from evil and hatred.
  • Creativity, passion and joy as faculty, staff and students engage in the process of discovering new knowledge and understanding through Whitworth’s education of mind and heart.
  • The first week of our campus worship programs:
    • Chapel Community Worship on Tuesday and Thursday as the faculty, staff and students gather to grow in their faith and in the knowledge of Christ as we explore our theme for the semester, “God Made Known: Jesus’ I AM Statements in the Gospel of John.” We pray for Forrest Buckner, dean of spiritual life and campus pastor, as he preaches on Tuesday. We also pray for Thursday’s service as we come together to sing and share Holy Communion. This Thursday, we pray especially for the commissioning service for any students who are serving in the broader Spokane community (like student-teachers and Young Life).
    • Tuesday night’s Hosanna service, a student-led gathering providing space for worship through music, prayer and reflection.
    • Wednesday night’s student-led AWAKE gathering, as students explore who God is, who they are and why that even matters, and invite others to do the same.
  • Whitworth’s outdoor recreation programs as students are invited to explore and enjoy God’s incredible creation in community. We pray for safety, fun, meaningful relationships and awe.
  • Whitworth’s admissions team that is beginning recruitment travel to high schools and college fairs throughout the western United States. We pray for safety, endurance, joy, trust in God and the ability to represent Whitworth’s mission well. We pray that God would be calling future students to Whitworth through their good work.

We give thanks for the strength to meet each day, and live in the confidence of God’s faithfulness knowing that Jesus is I AM. We give thanks for God’s goodness and tender mercies revealed in Jesus Christ, and we are grateful for the faith to trust that God will give us strength for whatever we may endure.
