Sept. 4-10

Theme: “God Made Known: Jesus’ I AM Statements in the Gospel of John

This week we pray for:

  • Opening convocation on Sept. 7 as the Whitworth community gathers to ask God’s blessing on the coming academic year.
  • With gratitude for the wonderful first-year students (Class of 2021) and transfers who arrived over the weekend. We pray for the ongoing Traditiation activities occurring in the residence halls, that every new student would find a place of belonging, of being known and of being loved as a reflection of God’s attitude toward them.
  • Returning students as many move back to Spokane and all return to campus this week, for safety en route, for excitement for the new school year, and for hearts to be open to God’s work in and through them this year.
  • Instructional faculty, that their teaching would nurture students’ love of learning, their central purpose as students.
  • Monday’s Veterans Orientation as Whitworth welcomes and “coins” veterans who are members of the Whitworth community.
  • Tuesday’s Plug-In Picnic as new and returning students learn about different campus clubs and organizations, that students would be inspired to get involved in extracurricular community, learning and service without overextending themselves.
  • Athletes who continue to compete in fall sports, that they will be safe and that they will continue to display the Whitworth Pirate spirit – intense in competition while always respecting opponents. We pray that they would be developing into the people God made them to be through their participation.
  • The Multicultural Student Reception, as students gather with faculty, staff and administrators and begin their careers as integral members of the Whitworth community.
  • New and returning students to get connected with a local church for worship, community and service. We pray for the Church Ministry Fair on Sept. 8, as churches come on campus to introduce themselves to interested students.

Loving God, we give you thanks for the gift of this new school year. Thank you for each student who is walking on the Whitworth campus. Thank you that you love them and are calling them closer to you in and through Jesus. May this year be a year in which every student knows the goodness and inclusion of being called and loved by the One Lord, One Spirit and One Father. Amen.
