Safe Travels and Smooth Transitions

Aug. 28-Sept. 3

Welcome to the On Bended Knee prayer blog from Whitworth University. We are deeply grateful that you would support the university through your consistent prayer, and we are delighted to provide specific prayer requests for the Whitworth community each week throughout the school year. Thank you for joining us in seeking God on behalf of Whitworth!

This week we pray for:

  • First-year students and their families who will be traveling to campus this week for the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. We pray for safe travel and smooth transitions. We pray for peace for both students and families as this new season begins, and we pray that every student would find their place of flourishing at Whitworth, growing to become the men and women that God made them to be.
  • Graduate and continuing studies students at Whitworth, that they would know God’s provision and strength as they study and often also carry many other responsibilities outside of school. We also pray for the faculty and staff who specifically work with graduate and continuing studies, for strength, wisdom and passion as they provide a mind-and-heart education for these students.
  • The BUCS Bridge Program, as first-year students from first-generation and/or underrepresented racial and ethnic population backgrounds come to campus for a four-day pre-orientation this week to prepare them to thrive at Whitworth.
  • Resident directors and student leaders as they prepare for the school year in the residence halls and campus ministry. Pray for enthusiasm, wisdom, love, unity, growth and God’s guidance during this training week and throughout the upcoming year.
  • Staff and faculty kickoff events including Wednesday’s Staff Worship Service with Stephaine Nobles-Beans (coordinator of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Ministries) preaching followed by President Beck A. Taylor’s State of the University address for all staff and faculty.
  • Faculty retreat, faculty family picnic, and new faculty worship and installation service on Thursday as faculty gather together for training, community and welcoming the newest faculty members.
  • Faculty and our staff as they make final preparations for the academic year. We pray for God’s favor to rest upon them and for God’s strength, vision and joy as they engage in the wonderful work of equipping students to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity.
  • Our grounds and facilities services workers who have kept campus beautiful and made key improvements at Whitworth this summer. We pray with gratitude for them.
  • Orientation Weekend as first-year students are welcomed to Whitworth. We pray for celebration, community with new friends and hall mates, healthy “letting go” for parents, desire for spiritual growth, and preparation for the academic challenges ahead.

Thanksgiving:
We give thanks for each student who has been called this year to attend Whitworth. We are grateful for the way God has worked in their lives and in their families to bring them here and for the contributions they will make to the campus community. Bless them and strengthen them. We pray that through their time at Whitworth they would grow closer to Jesus, becoming more fully who God made them to be in order that they might honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity more and more.
