Give Thanks

May 15-21

Psalms 136:1
O, give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his steadfast love endures forever.

This week we pray for…

  • students who are taking final exams. We ask that they will be blessed with strength, joy, wisdom, peace, and enrichment as they proceed through this final week of the school year.
  • safe travel for our students as they head off to their many destinations at the close of the semester.
  • our student life staff, including those in residence life, who have cared for students this year and who are helping students in residence halls finish up the year and move out.
  • all of the commencement ceremonies and celebrations this weekend. We pray for safe travels for families and friends coming to Whitworth and for a weekend full of gratitude, love, and joy for all who are graduating.
  • Friday’s Communion and Commissioning Service for undergraduates, as the graduating community and supporters gather for a worship service that includes faculty and student reflections, an opportunity for graduates to recommit their lives to God’s service in Christ, for sharing communion, and for being individually prayed for as members of the Class of 2017.
  • all who will participate in Saturday’s 2017 Graduate Commencement, as candidates for master’s degrees in the School of Education, School of Business, and College of Arts and Sciences celebrate this wonderful occasion with their loved ones.
  • Sunday morning’s Baccalaureate Service, as Theology Professor Adam Neder preaches and the Whitworth community gathers to worship God.
  • Sunday’s Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, as the Whitworth community gathers at the Spokane Arena to celebrate the Class of 2017, including the many continuing studies graduates who are receiving their undergraduate degrees after nontraditional journeys to this milestone. We pray for all graduates, that they would be drawn to Jesus as they reflect upon their season at Whitworth and as they look toward to the future, and we ask that by God’s grace they would be people who honor God, follow Christ, and serve humanity in greater and greater measure.

Loving and faithful God, we thank you for students who are graduating and for students who are taking the next step at Whitworth. We thank you for all who have given of their energy and skill to make this year a success. We thank you for teachers and mentors, for family and loved ones. We thank you for each of these people and commend them all to you, trusting in your loving power and powerful love for all that lies ahead.
