Praise and Penitence before the Great Creator and Lawgiver

April 24-30

Scripture:
Psalm 19

This week we pray for…

  • prospective Whitworth students and their families as they make decisions by the May 1 enrollment-deposit deadline about where they will attend college. Our prayer is that they will have clarity about Whitworth’s distinctive mission and will know with certainty whether Whitworth is a good fit for them.
  • our students, no matter where they are on their faith journey, to grow in trust, knowledge and obedience to the God made known in Jesus.
  • our students to be equipped, encouraged and empowered from day to day as they meet challenges in their everyday lives.
  • campus worship: Tuesday’s Chapel Community Worship as Forrest Buckner teaches in our series “Encountering Jesus in the Psalms: Living Honestly with God”; Tuesday’s student-led Hosanna worship event; Wednesday’s student-led AWAKE ministry gathering; Thursday’s Chapel Community Worship gathering for music and communion; and our reflective morning prayer services on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • all who support Whitworth financially and for all who serve in the institutional advancement office, particularly as we celebrate our annual Day of Giving on Tuesday.
  • Friday’s Take Back the Night gathering observed along with campuses around the nation. We ask that Whitworth and all university campuses would be places of safety from sexual assault for all students.
  • all who will be attending and participating in Whitworth’s 47th annual luau, hosted by Na Pu’uwai ‘o Hawaii, Whitworth’s Hawaiian club, on Saturday evening.
  • the Whitworth community’s ongoing efforts to be good stewards of the environment and the earth’s resources, particularly as various student groups engage in Sustainability Week events.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we love to watch the sky you have created – we are amazed by the vastness of it compared with our smallness. You reign above all, and are yet so close to us. Your glory is revealed in the firmament, in the formation of clouds, in the sun and the colors we see. We lift our eyes, O Lord, to the heavens above, and we are reminded of your magnificence, your power, your greatness. We cannot forget how small we are and how much we need you. And for that we are forever grateful.
