Advent – Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ The Lord!

Note: We at Whitworth send our sincere gratitude for your prayers for the Whitworth community this year. Those prayers make a difference. Residence halls are closed from Dec. 17 through Jan. 2, and On Bended Knee will resume in January 2017. May you have a blessed Christmas and a happy new year!

Dec. 12-Jan. 2, 2017

This week we pray for…

  • students to have the strength to finish the semester well, applying themselves and continuing to learn during this Finals Week.
  • a blessed, safe, worshipful and rejuvenating Christmas Break for students, staff, and faculty.
  • faculty and staff members who are battling illness themselves or who may have a sick family member. We ask that God will bring healing and that those who struggle with their health will know God’s loving and powerful presence with them.
  • students who are not looking forward to Christmas Break for a variety of reasons; we ask that they would turn to God and know God’s loving sustenance in this season.
  • Whitworth’s annual Christmas Candlelight Service, as the community gathers to celebrate the arrival of the Light of the World through Scripture, song, and the Lord’s Supper.
  • the Longest Night Service, a quiet and reflective worship service of lamentation and hope for those who are mourning during this holiday season.
  • safe travel, meaningful relationships, rest and personal growth for the men’s and women’s basketball teams as they compete over the break.
  • students, faculty and staff who will be travelling in the U.S. and abroad for Jan Term study; we ask for their safety and for transformative learning experiences.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, thank you for the true meaning of Christmas. Help us to boldly proclaim your love in word and act this Christmas season, and may each of us be filled with rejoicing at your amazing goodness to us in sending your Son, Jesus, into the world. Amen
