Disciples at the Transfiguration: One Big Story of the Loving Father

Oct. 24-30, 2016

Scripture:
Luke 9:28-36

This week we pray for…

  • our students as they come to Fall Break. We pray for their rest, wise choices, safety and joyful times with friends and family.
  • students who might be feeling homesick during this time to find a place of belonging and community. We pray for them particularly over Fall Break, asking that God would comfort those who wish they could be home at this time.
  • safety for our student-athletes in cross country, football, swimming, soccer and volleyball, who will be traveling this week.
  • students who will be attending the majors fair and seeking guidance and direction from advisors about vocation and their majors.
  • campus worship programs: Chapel Community Worship, where Forrest Buckner will preach on Tuesday and we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Thursday; Hosanna, on Tuesday night; and AWAKE, on Wednesday night.
  • lecturers Rev. German Zarate Durier and Rev. Jairo Barriga Jaraba as they share stories and lessons learned in their ecumenical work seeking reconciliation and peace between rebels and government groups in Colombia.
  • T=the Gospel Conference, on Oct. 27-29, as members of the Whitworth and Spokane communities gather to discuss The Gospel and Racism. We pray for our speakers, Randy Woodley, Noel Castellanos, ’82, and Lisa Sharon Harper, as they help the church discern what it means to live faithfully in Jesus’ gospel as it pertains to race and racism today.
  • Faculty Development Day, as faculty members turn their attention to racial reconciliation and its impact upon their teaching.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, may we open our eyes and truly see Jesus. May we open our ears and hear your voice, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!” We are grateful that you lead us and that your love endures forever.
