Freeing the Oppressed

Oct. 3-9

Scripture:
Luke 4:31-37

This week we pray for…

  • a sense of belonging and community for all of our students – particularly freshmen, transfer students and international students.
  • the Whitworth Counseling Center’s counselors. We ask for wisdom and love from God for all of our counselors as they care for students.
  • students who are struggling with depression. We ask that they would receive the help they need and that you, God, would provide them hope and freedom.
  • student-athletes’ safe travels this week. We pray that they would give their all, would care for others, and would grow up as the men and women God made them to be.
  • Faculty Scholarship Forum lunches, which generally meet twice each month throughout the year. At these events, faculty share recent areas of study. We pray for community, learning and scholarship that would bring glory to God and service to the world.
  • the President’s Coffee, at which staff gather to meet new employees, recognize years of service, listen to university updates, and share in a devotional with President Taylor.
  • our campus-worship programs: Chapel Community Worship, as Dean of Spiritual Life and Campus Pastor Forrest Buckner preaches on Tuesday and we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together on Thursday; Hosanna, on Tuesday nights; and AWAKE, on Wednesday nights.
  • Homecoming Weekend 2016, beginning Oct. 7. We ask that alumni will enjoy this time of reconnection with friends, faculty and staff.
  • Friday’s Why Whitworth Day, as prospective students and their families enjoy our campus and experience all that Whitworth has to offer.
  • Saturday’s grand opening of Cowles Music Center, which more than doubles the previous space available for music education.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we are thankful that at every moment of our existence you are present to us, God, in gentle compassion. Help us to be present to one another so that our presence may be a strength that heals the wounds of time and gives hope that is for all persons, through Jesus, our compassionate Savior.
