Obedience to Jesus

Nov. 16-23

Scripture:
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Ephesians 5:21

This week we pray for…

  • the entire Whitworth community in the aftermath of the death of current student Alexander Sengoba. We ask for your prayers, especially for Alex’s family, the students most directly affected, faculty members who taught Alex, student-life staff, especially those who knew and worked with Alex most closely, including those in the international-students office, resident directors, academic support services, counseling center, and campus ministry.
  • members of the Dean of Spiritual Life Search Committee as they continue to host candidates for this position during the next few weeks, and, then, as they deliberate upon the final appointment.
  • the Tuesday concert with Joe Jencks, an international touring performer, songwriter, entertainer, and educator, based in Chicago. His songs invite us to live inside of our passions and our beliefs.
  • Wednesday’s Awake ministry for student athletes, focused on three primary components of the Christian faith: gospel, worship, and fellowship.
  • Wednesday’s Wisdom, as faculty members and staff share their vocational journeys.
  • Community Chapel Service, on Thursday, as we gather around the table to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, and to enter into praise and worship through diverse worship styles. We will be blessed by the Whitworth University Choir during this service.
  • Friday’s International Students Banquet, as our students from across the globe share with us the beauty of their cultures in food, dress, and entertainment.
  • the family and friends of Trustee Emeritus Dick Leon, who was killed in a biking accident on Nov. 7. His memorial service is on Sat., Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. at Bellevue (Wash.) First Presbyterian Church.

Thanksgiving:
Gracious and Merciful God, we are so grateful that in times of need when we don’t have words to express all that is in our hearts, Your Spirit intervenes. May our hearts be attentive to the presence on Your Spirit when we are burdened by the sorrow of loss. Teach us how to revere and adore You in these moments, when we grow faint with grief. Help us to love You with all our hearts, souls, and strength, as You are ever present with us. In Jesus name, Amen.
