Honoring Those Who Have Led Us

Jan. 20-26

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles. Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2

This week we pray for…

  • our students who are nearing the end of Jan Term. Let them complete their assignments and be well-prepared for exams.
  • our students who are preparing to return to campus from Jan Term travels along with the new students who will arrive for spring semester.
  • students who are ill; we ask that they will have a full recovery.
  • the Spokane community’s Jan. 20 Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration and those who visit campus for a special dinner at which we will remember the man who gave his life to help this country live out the ideal that “all people are created equal.”
  • Whitworth Facilities Services staff. We ask that they will have strength and protection as they keep our campus beautiful and safe during this winter season.
  • Off-campus Jan Term programs, including…
    • Christian Spirituality with Jerry Sittser (Theology) at Tall Timber Ranch
    • Science in Hawaii, with Tom Hillmann (Physics & Geology)
    • British Culture through the Arts, with Casey Andrews (English)
    • Technology and Culture Abroad, with Kent Jones and Ed Walker (both Mathematics & Computer Science)
    • International Education Internships in Tanzania, with Ann Teberg (School of Education), and Thailand, with Lori Wright (Continuing Studies)
  • Initiative 4.3 of the Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 Vision and Strategic Plan. Ask that we may effectively equip all members of the Whitworth community to live, work and learn in relationships that reflect the call to love God and to love one’s neighbor through appropriate curricular and co-curricular programs, professional development and training opportunities.

Lord, we give thanks for those faithful saints, women and men, who have tried to live out your gospel in the face of the tremendous opposition that the world throws at those who follow Jesus. As followers in their footsteps, may we be found faithful in the face of all the challenges that lie before us.
