God’s Purposes Produce Hope

Jan. 13-19

“Surely I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD: “plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

This week we pray for…

  • our students, as they continue to develop personal and spiritual relationships that are trustworthy and life-giving.
  • our students, faculty and staff as they grow in their sense of confidence in God’s vocational calling during this new year
  • faculty and students on Jan Term study trips. This week we ask for special prayers for the following groups:
    • Ben Brody (Music): Music, Worship and the Arts, Europe
    • Lori Johnson (Education): Thailand
    • Gordon Jackson (Communication Studies) and Amy Rice (English): Interdisciplinary Studies, South Africa
    • Katherine Carr-Conejo (Education): Chile
    • John Yoder and Megan Hershey (both Political Studies): History and Peace Studies, Tanzania (semester-long program, through May)
  • The Whitworth Student Symposium, on Jan. 15, which seeks to enhance the quality of intellectual discourse among students on campus.
  • Initiative 4.2 of the Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 vision and strategic plan. Pray for Whitworth as the university assesses its current efforts to assist students, faculty and staff in developing intercultural competencies and in measuring their effects on the relational quality of the campus environment regarding the living, learning and working experiences of all members of the Whitworth community.

Lord, we thank you that you love us so much you accept as we are, and you also love us so much you don’t leave us as we are. We thank you that though we don’t know the plan for our lives, you do. Give us the courage to accept and live out your will for us as a community. We are so thankful, Lord, that you have plans for us. All we have to do is follow in your ways.
