Everything New

Jan. 6-12

Scripture:
Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18-19

This week we pray for…

  • students who have returned to campus after Christmas Break, some of whom are once again far away from home and feeling lonely. Please ask that the hope that Christ gives them brings light and strength to their lives.
  • students and faculty on our Jan Term study trips. As they scatter across our world, please ask that they will know God’s presence and feel the support of the Whitworth community even though they are far from Spokane. Each week during Jan Term we will pray for specific study groups, and this week we pray for…
    • Raja Tanas (Sociology): Core 350 in Hawaii
    • Forrest Baird (Philosophy): Core 250 in Europe
    • Todd Friends (Business): Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand
    • Patricia Bruninks (Psychology): Tanzania
    • Jim Edwards and Jonathan Moo (Theology): Turkey
  • faculty and staff who continue their work here in Spokane. Please pray that the refreshment and rest gained during the break will sustain them through the intense workload of January, with each day of class representing one week of study during fall/spring semesters.
  • safe travels and God’s inspiration for President Beck Taylor as he preaches at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, Colo., on Jan. 12.
  • Strategic Plan Initiative 4.1 from our Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 vision and strategic plan. Please pray for Whitworth’s capacity to assess, monitor, support and lead efforts to achieve institutional goals for diversity, inclusiveness and intercultural competency.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we thank you for the new things that you are doing in our lives. As we begin this new year, may your Spirit inspire us with renewed passion for your gospel, your kingdom, your calling and your people. Thank you for the abundance of your wisdom and for your compassion overflowing in our lives. We are so grateful that we don’t have to remember the former things in our lives because we can see that you make all things new.
