Light Shines in the Darkness, Despair Dispelled by Hope

Dec. 9-15

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

This week we pray for…

  • students as they prepare for and take final exams, and faculty who will work to grade those exams and complete the process of evaluating students’ learning over the course of the semester. May wisdom and perseverance be supplied by God’s Spirit to all members of the Whitworth community.
  • safety for all as they travel throughout the holidays.
  • hope, in this season of Advent, which comes to our world through Christ the Messiah.
  • Monday’s Faculty Scholarship Forum, as Todd Friends (School of Business) presents “Turning Businesses into Learning Organizations.”
  • our Candlelight Nativity Service on Monday evening, as the nativity story is told with scriptures, music led by the Whitworth Men’s Chorus, and our final celebration of communion for this semester.
  • the Annual Christmas Festival Concerts this Saturday and Sunday in Spokane, featuring the choir, the women’s choir, the men’s chorus, the chamber singers and our fine student instrumentalists.
  • Initiative 5.2 of the Courage at the Crossroads Whitworth 2010-21 vision and strategic plan as we seek to expand experiential learning opportunities for students to serve the community, participate in off-campus initiatives, and apply educational skills in workplace settings.

Lord, we thank you for the Anointed One, the Messiah, who will bring peace and justice and righteousness to the world. May we have a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing. And through your Son, Jesus, may we experience once again the hope of deliverance, for which we are so grateful.

Thanks for the weekly reminders to pray for Whitworth students, faculty, admin and staff. I appreciate the Scripture verses for prayer fuel and focus as well.
    Merry Christmas!

I am so grateful for this way to remain connected in prayer with the Whitworth community. Thank you for making this available for us all. Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace to all people!
