Rejoicing Forever More

Feb. 18-24

Scripture:
Mary responded, “Oh, how I praise the Lord!”
Luke 1:46

This week we pray for…

  • students as they pursue healthy relationships and learn ways to intervene in tense situations on each other’s behalf through the Green Dot training program.
  • Campus Worship, Feb. 19, as Roberta Wilburn (School of Education) shares with us, from Luke 1:39-56, the story of Mary & Elizabeth. Please pray also for that evening’s Hosanna service as students lead praise and worship and have a time of prayer with other students.
  • the Graduation Fair, Feb. 20, as seniors gather information about the transition that will take place in their lives as they leave Whitworth this spring. The fair will provide them with much practical information they’ll need before graduation.
  • our intern orientation, Feb. 20, which will highlight the benefits of an internship, equip Whitworth students for the internship search, and explain the requirements necessary for a student to earn credit.
  • Whitworth’s celebration of its 123rd anniversary, on Feb. 20. On Feb. 20, 1890, Whitworth opened its doors to “all lovers of truth and learning.” Today, we give thanks for the faithfulness God has shown as we have carried forth the noble mission of preparing graduates to “honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity.”
  • our chapel service on Thursday, Feb. 21, as the community gathers around the table to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, to grow in our various gifts and to offer our lives to God through diverse worship styles.
  • Whitworth’s Leonard Oakland Film Festival, Feb. 21-23, which honors Whitworth’s longest-serving professor (English) and his deep knowledge and love of film.
  • the Leadership Fair on Friday, Feb. 22, as students begin the process of pursuing leadership positions on campus next year. May God lead every student to the right place of influence in our community
  • our Honors Colloquium Event, Feb. 23-24, designed for prospective freshmen who have been admitted with honors to Whitworth’s fall 2013 entering class.
  • Initiative 4.3 of Whitworth’s Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 vision statement and strategic plan. Pray that Whitworth will be successful in equipping all members of its community to live, work and learn in relationships that reflect the call to love God and to love one’s neighbor through appropriate curricular and co-curricular programs, professional development and training opportunities.

Thanksgiving:
Lord, we do praise you for sustaining this university for 123 years. We rejoice in that legacy of your faithfulness even as we seek to continue the trajectory of steadfast commitment to our Christian mission. Be with us and guide us into the future.
