All Things New!

Jan.7-13

Scripture:
Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you!

This week we pray for…

  • traveling mercies for the students, staff and faculty who are participating in Jan Term trips all over the globe. For each week of Jan Term we will provide information about Whitworth’s 12 off-campus study programs, which are taking place in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and in several different states within the U.S. For now, please pray for each participant to adjust to new cultures, environments and foods, as well as for a deepening sense of welcoming Christian community among their fellow travelers.
  • most of our students have returned to the Spokane campus, now blanketed in snow and facing very cold temperatures. Students need to adjust to the daily rigor of Jan Term’s intensive courses, where participants are in class for many hours each day. Pray for these students’ health, discipline and the ability to learn well during this three-and-a-half week session.
  • each Wednesday night during Jan Term the Whitworth community will gather in chapel for singing, prayer and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Some students return to Whitworth exhilarated and energized by the goodness of Christmas break and being with family and friends. Others return with heavy hearts as a result of painful tragedies which have come upon some members of our community in the past few weeks. As we worship with the theme of “The light shines in the darkness” (John 1:5), may God meet each and every member of the Whitworth community with the grace of Jesus Christ.
  • Initiative 3.2 of Whitworth’s Courage at the Crossroads 2011-12 Vision and Strategic Plan: Expanding opportunities for students, faculty and staff to engage people from other cultures on the Whitworth campus.

Thanksgiving:
Lord we are so thankful for how You have met us in the celebration of Jesus’ birth. Now we turn our eyes, our minds, our hearts to the New Year which You set out before us. We do not know what the future holds, but we do know that You hold the future. Teach us to use our days wisely, that we may gain wisdom of heart. Fill this New Year with your mercy, grace and truth so that we may be glad and rejoice in all the days which You have set before each of us. Amen.
