Immanuel: “God with us!”

Dec. 10-16

Matthew 23:22
The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him “Immanuel,” which means “God with us.”

This week we pray…

  • for our students as they prepare for a week of final exams. Please ask that they will be well-prepared and focused as they finish out the semester.
  • for safe travels as students prepare to go home to be with family and friends over the holidays; ask that they will get the rest they need and deserve.
  • Monday’s Faculty Scholarship Forum on as Jason Wollschleger (Sociology) presents “Divergent: Exploring Emerging Christianity.” This forum provides grass-roots support for faculty scholarship and serves as a platform for presentations of research and grants, as well as an opportunity for faculty members to educate their colleagues.
  • the annual Candlelight Nativity Service on Monday evening, at which the nativity story will be told with candles and music. This year’s service will be led by the Whitworth Men’s Chorus, and communion will be served.
  • Initiative 3.1 of the Courage at the Crossroads 2011-12 vision and strategic plan: Ask that Whitworth will be successful at “expanding opportunities for students to study language, engage other cultures, and explore understandings of justice in cross-cultural settings throughout the world.”

Lord, we thank you that through your son, “Immanuel,” you are with us. You tell us that you will never leave us nor forsake us, and that you are with us even until the ends of the earth; for this, Lord, we are so thankful.
