Receiving God’s Grace

Nov. 5-11

2 Corinthians 6:1
As God’s fellow workers, we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.

This week we pray for…

  • those affected by Hurricane Sandy, especially the schools of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities on the East Coast and the families and relatives of members of the Whitworth community who are suffering as a result of this catastrophic storm.
  • a welcoming, hospitable spirit here on campus so that all who are a part of this community will feel and experience God’s love in the way they are treated by others.
  • students who may be struggling with coursework to have the wisdom to absorb what they are learning and to demonstrate that knowledge through excellent academic performance in their exams and papers.
  • students who are experiencing financial difficulties to have their financial needs met.
  • students to continue to build healthy relationships with classmates, faculty and staff. Ask that all of us within the community will encourage and support the development of Christian faith in others.
  • Faculty Scholarship Forum, as faculty members gather to listen to the research findings of their colleagues. May all faculty be inspired to pursue God and serve God and serve the university through their various research interests.
  • Cultural Awareness Week, as students facilitate a week of learning opportunities about cultures other than their own.
  • chapel Tuesday, as Campus Pastor Mindy Smith shares with us from 2 Corinthians 5:12-6:1. Ask that the entire community will appreciate the marvelous reconciliation we have in Jesus Christ, and pray for our students as they come together for Hosanna, a time of reflection, worship and prayer, on Tuesday night. Please pray also for Thursday’s service for holy communion, as our students lead in praise and worship.
  • our “Why Whitworth?” event, as we welcome prospective students and their parents for a tour, luncheon and presentation about the possibility of the students attending Whitworth as their university of choice next year.
  • the Whitworth Wind Symphony’s fall concert on Sunday afternoon, in Cowles Auditorium, as the campus and community enjoy the beauty of music through this student performance.
  • Initiative 2.4 of the Courage at the Crossroads Strategic Plan, as Whitworth expands support for faculty scholarship and engagement with academic disciplines in order to enrich teaching, model intellectual engagement for students, and further elevate Whitworth’s academic profile.

Lord, we are so thankful for your grace. Sometimes we feel so underserving. Through your unmerited grace we now have the ability to do your work as we serve through our various callings.
