God of Wonders, You Are Holy!

Sept. 24-30

Scripture:
Psalm 8:1
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

This week we pray for…

  • our students, as they enter into their fourth week of school. Continue to pray for grace in all the transitions of this first month of the year, in academics, relationships and new rhythms.
  • faculty, as they gather on Sept. 24 to discuss the university’s focus on innovative teaching methods to enhance teaching and learning.
  • chapel as we gather Tuesday, Sept. 25, to hear from Mike Sardinia (Biology), as he preaches from Psalm 8, and on Thursday as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.
  • our first staff development program takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 26. This monthly gathering of staff employees provides spiritual encouragement and professional equipping. Dick Mandeville, our VP of Student Life, will be giving the devotional on “Modeling Our Faith.”
  • academic program assistants on Sept. 27 as they gather to learn about new procedures and policies. Pray for guidance, wisdom and knowledge for each department.
  • prospective students and their parents as they visit Whitworth on Sept. 28 for the “Why Whitworth?” program. This event begins the discernment process for the class that will enter in the fall of 2013. Pray also for our admissions staff as they recruit all over the country.
  • the many faculty members, staff and students on search committees for new faculty. Various searches are under way, with finalists for some positions visiting the university soon. May these committees be wise and discerning in their deliberations and recommendations.
  • Initiative 1.2 from the Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 Vision and Strategic Plan, as Whitworth deepens the capacity of students and faculty to integrate faith and learning inside and outside the classroom.

Thanksgiving:
We thank you, Lord, for equipping us to meet challenges. Sometimes it can be difficult for us to know where you are, so we are grateful to be reassured in scripture not only that you are present, but that you care for us with an unfailing love that gives us eternal security.
