God Does All Things Well

Sept. 16-23

Scripture:
Genesis 1:31
God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! (MSG)

This week we pray for…

  • a good settling-in period for students who have come to Whitworth for the first time. New kinds of weather, challenging classes, different kinds of students: all this newness can be stimulating and sometimes overwhelming. May students’ minds and hearts and bodies adjust quickly, as Whitworth becomes a welcoming community.
  • The Whitworth Foundation Board of Directors as they gather for their quarterly meeting Sept. 18. The foundation provides financial support for the university’s Christian educational mission. Pray that these faithful women and men will receive God’s wisdom and guidance.
  • Community Building Day on Tuesday, Sept. 18. More than 1,000 of our faculty, staff, and students will engage in meaningful community service activities throughout the community and the region. May God bless Spokane through the faithful hearts and hands of the Whitworth community throughout this academic year as we at Whitworth serve our neighbors for the common good.
  • the annual luncheon hosted by Beck and Julie Taylor, alongside the Whitworth Institutional Advancement Office to thank faculty and staff donors for their contributions to Whitworth in fiscal year 2012. May a spirit of gratitude for God’s grace fill that gathering, which will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
  • the Student-Teacher Commissioning Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 20. May our student-teachers step into classrooms all over the region with a strong sense of God’s presence as they prepare for their calling and vocation.
  • our student government, which is leading Whitworth and other Northwest universities in a concerted effort to address the issue of human trafficking. The first major event this year is the “Not For Sale World Tour,” will be on campus all day Saturday, Sept. 22, for seminars, fund-raisers, and a concert. May God impart a vision to every participant to take action against this terrible evil and to act on behalf of all its victims.
  • Initiative 1.1 of the Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 Vision and Strategic Plan Initiative Ask that this initiative will spur us to continue positioning Whitworth as a valued resource to the church and society, contributing to regional, national and international discussions of Christian intellectuals engaging important contemporary issues.

Thanksgiving:
We are so grateful, Lord, that we are your servants and that we serve one another. Help us to continue to have true servants’ hearts, expressing the love that you show us each and every day throughout our region, our nation, and our world.
