New Beginnings

Sept. 3-9

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

This week we pray for…

  • new and returning students and their families, who will be traveling to campus from all parts of the country for the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Pray for safe travel and meaningful transitions.
  • Move-in Day. Residence Halls open Sept. 1. Please pray that as students move in, wonderful relationships will develop and students will joyfully experience the new beginning of a great school year.
  • Orientation Weekend to be a time of celebration, a time for students to find new friends and hallmates. Please pray, too, that parents will feel a healthy sense of “letting go” of their new college students.
  • athletes who begin practicing and competing in different fall sports; ask that they will be protected and that they will continue to display the Whitworth Pirate spirit, intense in competition and always respectful of their opponents.
  • resident directors and student leaders as they prepare for the school year. Pray that they will be filled with enthusiasm, wisdom, compassion and courage as they begin to create community in their dorms and on our campus.
  • all of our faculty and staff members who support our students through their diligent work. Pray that the favor of the Lord will rest upon each of our employees, and ask that God will establish the work of their hands.
  • the safety of our grounds and facilities-services workers, who are putting in extra hours getting the campus ready for the beginning of the academic year.
  • Opening Convocation on Sept. 6, as the Whitworth community gathers to ask God’s blessing on the coming academic year.
  • the Church and Ministry Fair, on Sept. 7, as local churches come and share opportunities for our students to get involved with their churches during the students’ time at Whitworth.
  • Whitworth’s Courage at the Crossroads 2011-21 Vision and Strategic Plan. As that God will give direction, guidance and wisdom to the University Council that represents the entire Whitworth community in the ongoing implementation of this plan.

We give thanks for each student who has been called this year to attend Whitworth. We are so grateful for the way God has worked in their lives to bring them here and for the contributions they will make to our campus community. It’s a new beginning.
